Lauwersmeer National Park

Take a walk, hop on the bike or head out on the water. At the activity centre, you will learn everything about birds, and you can enjoy the beauty of the night sky here at 3 places.

Boat to Schiermonnikoog

Schiermonnikoog is a car-free island, so you can easily cycle across the entire island. Cycle past the Wassermann bunker from 1943, which offers a beautiful view of the entire island. There is plenty to see.

A day trip to Groningen

There are many lovely outdoor cafés, you can shop to your heart's content in the city centre and there is a market every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. You will also find the historic city hall and the famous Martini tower here.

At Roompot Glamping Lauwersmeer, you will experience a unique way of camping. At this park, you are staying in a sturdy safari tent, furnished with comfortable beds, a kitchen and a bathroom. Upon arrival, the your tent is ready. No hassles with tent poles, you start enjoying your holiday right away. You can relax or plan a trip out on your tent veranda. Spotting seals, off to the city of Groningen or having drinks on the deck. The park is ideal for families with children, as it is car-free. There are several playgrounds between the tents. The kids have a great time with new friends. The Service point and Take Away can be found in the old inn. There is a mini market too. So fresh bread rolls for breakfast are available!

Way back, the Lauwersmeer used to be the Lauwerszee. Artificial hills offer protection against the high tide. These hills are called wierden in Groningen. The park is located near Vierhuizen, which is also a real wierde village. When you go head out exploring the area, you are bound to notice the varied landscape. Water, vast meadows and woodlands alternate. Nature in the Lauwersmeer is so special that the area has been designated a National Park. At Lauwersoog you will find several beaches. Perfect for those hot days! If you prefer to go sailing, you can rent a boat at various places. Or go on a day trip to the Wadden Island Schiermonnikoog. You can get there in no time by ferry. In the evening when darkness falls, a new experience awaits. At the Lauwersmeer, it is really dark. You can stargaze fantastically from one of the special watchtowers. Will you spot a shooting star?
